Swimming Lessons & Club

Swimming lessons

We live in a country surrounded by water, and swimming is no longer a compulsory part of the school curriculum - this means it's more important than ever that kiwi kids learn to swim.

Laing Swim School offers swimming lessons for babies and children, teaching them to swim and be confident in the water. Swimming lessons are done in heated pools, in a fun and freindly environment. All the swim school teachers are qualified instructors and hold first aid certificates.

Swimming lessons are available all year round or as block courses during the school holidays - phone 027 445 5767 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information or to book your child in.

Adult swimming lessons also available on request.

Matamata Swimming Club

Matamata Swimming Club aims to provide our community with the opportunity to take part in both the sport of swimming and the development of strong water safety skills.

The summer season runs from 1 October to 31 March. The winter season runs from 1 April to 30 September.

Swimmers are placed in squads according to their ability. As they improve they are likely to move up to higher squads through the season.

Matamata Swimming Club is one of the few regional clubs that provides a professional coach for our swimmers. Graeme Laing is a former National Age Group Champion (F/S & Fly), NZ Nationals (F/S), NZ H2O team, NZ Surf Life Saving Representative (1980 – 1982) and NZ Water Polo Representative (1982). He has coached and taught swimming in Dunedin for 20 years with the Duncan Laing Swim School. In 2003 he moved to Tauranga and worked for H2O Harliqins Swim Squad.
